After leaving the museum, we headed North up the canyon on the rough gravel road to start the 17-mile Bachelor Loop Historic Tour through the old silver mining district. The gravel road, for the 1/2 mile between markers #3 and #4 on the map, is called "Black Pitch" and is the steepest, most treacherous, and scariest road we have ever driven on! It was one-car wide, very steep, with loose gravel. We dared not stop as the car's tires spun, hence no photos taken between photo #08 and #09. Photos #10-12 show what remains of the "Weaver Town Site" (#4 on the map).

The route got it's name from the Bachelor Mine found in 1884 and subsequent town (at marker 12 on the map below), established in 1891, which is now just a site with no remaining structures (photos #18-20).

Photos #21-23 show us some of the spectacular views along the West end of the loop. As we approach the end of the Loop (map markers #15 & 16), we begin to see the town of Creede down below us with magnificent mountain views of the Wagon Wheel Gap (photos #24-25).

Starting at photo #30 we are at the Creed Cemetery (#15 on the Map) and we see some great views of the canyon to the North (photos #32-33) and again a view looking down on the town of Creede (photo#34).
